Kia Syros Diesel Review 2025: Smooth Performer or Just Hype?

As India races toward EVs and hybrids, Kia Syros Diesel 2025 stands firm as a reminder of what makes diesel SUVs so special — effortless torque, long-haul comfort, and unmatched fuel economy. But does it still make sense in 2025? Let’s find out.

Design & Exterior: Boxy Yet Smart

Kia Syros Diesel Review 2025: Smooth Performer or Just Hype?

The Kia Syros isn’t trying to be sleek or overly futuristic — it’s unapologetically boxy and upright. Think of it as a mini Kia Carnival, and you’ll get the idea. The stance gives it a unique road presence and excellent all-around visibility, perfect for both new drivers and elderly passengers.

However, practicality takes a small hit. The low-mounted lights on the bumpers get dirty quickly in rain or mud, which affects visibility. And those flush door handles — while stylish — can be tricky when your hands are full or the car is dusty. A simple pop-out mechanism would have helped.

Interior & Comfort: Space That Feels a Segment Above

Inside, Kia has worked its magic again. The Syros feels far more spacious than you’d expect from a sub-4m SUV. Rear seats can slide and recline, boot space is generous, and there’s thoughtful storage all around.

The AC system is strong, cooling the cabin fast even in peak summer. Dual-zone controls mix physical buttons (for essentials) and a touch panel (for lesser-used functions). You also get rear ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and manual sunblinds — features rarely seen in this class.

A wireless charging pad fits large phones easily, though it’s a bit shallow and might toss your phone during bumpy drives. Still, for long trips, the Syros scores full marks in comfort and convenience.

Engine & Performance: Diesel Done Right

The 1.5L diesel engine produces 115 PS and is paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The refinement levels are impressive — barely any diesel clatter enters the cabin.

In city traffic, the gearbox is smooth and responsive. On highways, the Syros cruises effortlessly with strong mid-range torque for easy overtakes. Occasionally, the transmission downshifts unexpectedly during throttle lift-offs, but that’s rare.

You can switch between Eco, Normal, and Sport modes — each tuned distinctly. Eco mode is practical for city driving without feeling dull, while Sport adds a punch on open highways.

Real-world mileage:

  • City: 10–12 km/l
  • Highway: 14–15.5 km/l

In our test, the Syros delivered 11.8 km/l in the city and 15.6 km/l on the highway — very respectable for a diesel automatic.

Ride & Handling: Tuned for Comfort

The Syros’ suspension is softer than the Sonet or Seltos, making it perfect for city commutes and family trips. Potholes and uneven roads are handled smoothly. Fully loaded, it feels even more planted.

However, drive solo at high speeds on uneven roads and you’ll feel a slight rear float. The steering is light, brakes are predictable, and the SUV feels stable at most speeds. Just don’t expect sporty cornering — the Syros is all about comfort, not aggression.

Verdict: Diesel Still Has Its Place

So, does a sub-4m diesel SUV still make sense in 2025?
If you love long-distance driving, absolutely.

The Kia Syros Diesel offers strong mid-range performance, family-friendly comfort, and solid efficiency. It’s the perfect SUV for those who drive across states, not just across cities.

For purely urban users, petrol or hybrid versions might be more sensible. But for road-trip lovers and diesel loyalists, the Syros proves that diesel isn’t dead — it’s just become a niche indulgence, like vinyl records or mechanical watches: timeless and soulful.
